General Health

ankle pain servicesWe want to ensure that you care for your feet. Below are helpful tips on how you can care for them when you can’t see us.

Using proper footwear: Too often we wear shoes because it’s appealing to the eye, but that does not mean that our feet like what you have put on them. Your shoes should support your feet and hold them firmly in place. Ill-fitting shoes may affect the shape and position of your feet, and put unnecessary pressure on the skin. Avoid uncomfortable, ill-fitting shoes.

  • Measure your feet. As we age, or our body shape changes, so do our feet. Measure your feet to ensure that your shoes are the right fit for your feet.
  • Stylish shoes don’t necessarily mean that they are right for your feet. If shoes are too tight, or too high they can cause undue pressure on your feet.
  • Wear shoes that have cushioned soles, especially those who walk or stand for long periods of time.

Caring for your feet at home: Just because you can’t get to your podiatrist, doesn’t mean that you can’t care for your feet in the comfort of your own home.

  • Be sure to wash your feet daily and dry them thoroughly.
  • Examine your feet, especially between the toes for blisters, cuts and scratches.
  • Prevent ingrown toenails by cutting toenails straight across, and be sure to keep them trimmed.
  • Remove hard dry skin by using a foot file, pumice stone or sloughing cream.
  • Wearing socks or stockings, and regular exercise improves circulation in your feet. You can also reduce the amount of pressure on your feet by losing those extra pounds.

Podiatric Specialties: Foot pain and injuries, or hereditary foot problems may require that you work with a specialist in podiatric care to treat your condition.

  • Podopaediatrics – diagnosing and treating lower limb conditions in children.
  • Sports Injuries – ankle sprains, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis.
  • Diabetic Wound Care – Treating foot ulcers as a result of diabetic nerve damage.
